Cultural & Creative Arts (CCA) — JSS 1–JSS 3

Step-by-step JSS 1–3 curriculum for this subject, aligned with the Lagos State Unified Scheme, Nigerian National Curriculum and BECE exam expectations.

JSS 1 CCA Curriculum

  • Introduction to Cultural and Creative Arts: meaning and branches (music, visual arts, drama, dance).
  • Elements of design: line, shape, colour, texture and form.
  • Drawing from observation and imagination; simple still-life and nature drawings.
  • Colour theory basics: primary, secondary colours and simple colour mixing.
  • Simple crafts using local materials (paper crafts, beadwork, weaving).

JSS 2 CCA Curriculum

  • Drawing and painting: shading, perspective (intro) and composition.
  • Textile design: simple tie-dye, batik and printing techniques (where facilities exist).
  • Pottery and modelling: simple clay work and three-dimensional forms (introductory).
  • Graphic design basics: simple posters, invitations and logo sketches.
  • Music: singing in parts (where possible), introduction to musical instruments and simple notation.
  • Drama: script reading, characterisation and short play production.
  • Dance: traditional Nigerian dances and basic choreography.
  • Cultural heritage: Nigerian arts, crafts, music and their roles in society.

JSS 3 CCA Curriculum (BECE Year)

  • Advanced drawing and painting: more detailed compositions and use of different media.
  • Graphic communication: posters, billboards and simple advert designs with clear messages.
  • Costume, make-up and set design for drama productions.
  • Music: reading simple notation, composing short melodies and performing in groups.
  • Drama production: planning, rehearsing and presenting a short play.
  • Dance and movement: folk dances and contemporary styles as tools for expression.
  • Review of Nigerian cultural heritage and its preservation.
  • Careers in the creative arts: visual artists, musicians, actors, designers etc.
